Boxing Hares and Other Sledmere Animals

An exhibition of photographs by Elise Thomas.

After it’s overwhelming opening success, this photography exhibition, Boxing Hares and Other Sledmere Animals, curated by Christopher Sykes, has been extended, and will be on display in The Exhibition Room at Sledmere throughout the Summer, allowing the public to see the late Elise Thomas’ brilliant talent as a photographer, and showcasing her passion for wildlife photography.

Elise Thomas, tragically died following a road traffic collision last year, aged 17 years old.

Having lived in Sledmere, Elise photographed some of the wildlife in and around the village and close to her home. She had started out this hobby during the Covid-19 lockdown, and had a lot of patience, sitting and waiting for hours for the perfect shot. It wasn’t long before she was being recognised for some of the incredible shots she was taking, including winning the RSPCA Young Photographer of the Year Award, in the Under 15’s section, in 2021.

Prints will be available to purchase, with the proceeds being donated to support photography students at East Riding College in Beverley, where she was a student.

The exhibition will run daily from Saturday 4th May through to early September from 10am to 4pm.

It is free to visit - entry in the Main Entrance Courtyard. Fully accessible.

Please note the whole site is closed on Mondays - Sledmere House and Gardens, and the Exhibition are open on Bank Holiday Mondays and on Mondays throughout school holidays.
