East Riding Estate Villages with Dr David Neave
Wed 17th October to Wed 17th October  (11.00 am - 1.00pm)
Dr David Neave gives a talk on East Ridings prettiest estate villages and looks at their distinctive architecture and the lives of their residents in the 19th century.

The prettiest villages in the East Riding are nearly all estate villages: villages where all, or nearly all, the houses belonged to the local landowner living in the nearby stately home. This illustrated talk will look at the distinctive architecture of such villages including Sledmere, Londesborough, South Dalton, Bishop Burton, and Warter and the life of the residents in the 19thcentury.

Dr David Neave, former senior lecturer in Regional and Local History at Hull University, is the author of many publications on the social, landscape and architectural history of East Yorkshire including a revision of Pevsner’s Buildings of England on Yorkshire: York and the East Riding and, with his wife Dr Susan Neave, a substantial volume on Sledmere and the Northern Wolds.

£30 pp - Coffee 11.00am - Lecture starts 11.30am - Two course lunch and glass of wine 12.30pm until 1.00pm - Free time in the gardens.
